Baek Seong-hyun, mayor of Nonsan City in Chungnam, said on the 19th, "The National Assembly and the central government need to closely examine the growth potential of regions so that local governments facing the risk of regional extinction can develop self-sustainability and contribute to balanced regional development."


At the launch ceremony of the 2nd National Assembly Regional Balanced Development Forum held at the National Assembly Members' Office Building the day before, Mayor Baek stated, "For regional development, a shift to a bottom-up policy structure and legislative support tailored to local needs are necessary."


He then introduced Nonsan City's key priority projects, including △ fostering the defense logistics industry △ scientific advancement and globalization of Nonsan strawberries △ and the Tapjeongho complex cultural and recreational resort.


He also explained the '5 villages 2 cities' lifestyle?living 5 days in rural areas and 2 days in urban areas?and the 'Three Principles of Agricultural Income,' which were proposed for the first time nationwide to promote changes in the agricultural distribution structure.


Mayor Baek emphasized, "Based on Nonsan's unique characteristics, we plan to accelerate policy discovery and resource development for regional advancement," adding, "Through fearless challenges and changes, we will strive to be a great help not only to Nonsan but also to national balanced development."
