Cheonan City Starts Early Operation of 7 Downtown Fountains Amid Continued Heat

Cheonan City in Chungnam Province will start operating seven fountains in rivers early due to the ongoing early heatwave.

The fountains to be operated early from the 20th include the music and programmed fountains installed in Cheonancheon Stream and the large wall fountain installed in Wonseongcheon Stream, totaling seven locations.

With this summer's heatwave expected, the city will operate the fountains for three months from June to September this year, instead of the usual two months from July to September until last year.

The operating hours are from 12 PM to 5 PM and from 7 PM to 9 PM, and the fountains will be stopped during rainy weather.

To prepare for the early operation of the fountains, the city completed inspection, repair, and cleaning of the fountain facilities since last month. Next year, they plan to replace the LED lighting and system.

A Cheonan city official said, "The river fountains are expected to provide resting spaces that will cool down citizens visiting the rivers during the summer heat," adding, "We will continue to create more attractive river spaces tailored to residents' needs."
