Cheonan City, Chungnam Province, is promoting the ‘Comprehensive Plan Establishment and Execution Task Derivation Study for the Creation of a Future Medical New Industry Cluster’ to transition into a smart healthcare city.
The city is working to transform its traditional industrial structure based on manufacturing into a ‘science and technology research and development (R&D)-based smart innovation city.’ The city plans to establish an execution plan for creating a future medical new business cluster that will lead a new bioeconomy such as personalized precision medicine and digital healthcare.
Through this, a mid- to long-term comprehensive plan will be established that supports the entire cycle from R&D planning based on an industry-academia-research-hospital-government cooperation model to clinical trials, approvals, market development, technology commercialization of follow-up projects, and the medical tourism industry.
The study will investigate and analyze the current status of the future medical field, conduct policy demand surveys for industry, academia, research, and hospitals, and derive a future medical vision and development strategy to be promoted over 10 years from 2026 to 2035. It will also seek to secure large-scale national funding for the creation of specialized clusters in fields such as dentistry.
Mayor Park Sang-don said, “Creating a future medical new industry cluster is the top priority task for transitioning to a ‘smart healthcare city,’” adding, “We will establish a virtuous cycle ecosystem for regional development where excellent talent is attracted to the future medical new industry along with job creation and nurturing of outstanding human resources in the region.”
