Yongsan-gu, Youth Public Officials' Mind Therapy for Civil Complaint Response

Yongsan-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Park Hee-young) took care of the mental health of young public officials exhausted from handling civil complaints through "Mind Therapy" on the 18th, in collaboration with the local ethical company Amorepacific Gonggam Foundation. The program will be held again on the 21st. A total of 64 young public officials will participate over the two days.

This is a new attempt to spread a culture of integrity within the Yongsan-gu organization and improve the culture of power harassment. The district and Amorepacific Gonggam Foundation joined hands to strengthen the resilience of young public officials' minds. It is planned to be conducted once in the first and second half of the year.

A district official explained the background, saying, "This training was planned based on the recognition that public officials themselves need to maintain mental stability in order to provide high-quality civil services and uphold an honest attitude."

Mind Therapy is a time to focus solely on oneself. On the 18th, participants had a "Fragrance Therapy" session to find their own scent. On the 21st, a "Five Senses Walk Tea Therapy" will be held in collaboration with the tea brand O'Sulloc. Young public officials spend time getting to know themselves, healing their minds, and building mental strength.

Bae, a public official who participated on the 18th, said, "The scents of bergamot and ylang-ylang seemed to help stabilize my mind and body," adding, "I was happy to find a comforting scent, and the process was good because I could focus only on myself."

In April this year, as part of a field learning program for 69 rookie public officials, they visited the Amorepacific headquarters. They learned about ethical management practiced by a private ethical company and aimed to spread a culture of integrity through public-private cooperation.

As part of efforts to improve integrity, the district held a survival-style quiz competition called "The Best Integrity Golden Bell" on the 31st of last month. The quiz covered topics such as the Anti-Graft Act, Conflict of Interest Prevention Act, and Code of Conduct. After an online preliminary round, 190 employees advanced to the on-site finals. The winner was Lee Rim, a public official working at Ichon 2-dong Community Service Center.

Every Monday, self-study on integrity is conducted. Familiar content such as webtoons and card news is used to reinforce anti-corruption awareness, including conflict of interest, restrictions on external activities related to duties, and exclusion of preferential treatment.

In addition, through related education and policy projects such as ▲new employee integrity training ▲integrity radio ▲selection of clean public official awards ▲power harassment prevention code of conduct training ▲integrity concerts, efforts are being made to spread a culture of integrity within the organization.

Park Hee-young, Mayor of Yongsan-gu, said, "Public officials with strong minds can protect themselves and provide quality administration to residents," adding, "I thank Amorepacific Gonggam Foundation for their collaboration, and the district will continue to do its best to create an organization free of power harassment and full of integrity."
