The value of shares held by the owner families of large corporations has been confirmed to exceed 155 trillion won.

On the 19th, CEO Score, a corporate data research institute, investigated the status of stocks and share values held by owner family affiliates of 78 out of 88 designated large corporate groups in 2024 that have the same individual. As of the end of last month, the total share value was calculated at 155.659 trillion won.


Compared to the 136.836 trillion won recorded at the end of 2022, it increased by approximately 18.822 trillion won (18.3%) over about two years.


The share value of the parent generation among the owner families was 81.514 trillion won, up 8.633 trillion won (11.8%) from 72.882 trillion won at the end of 2022. The share value of the child generation also increased by 10.189 trillion won (15.9%) during the same period, from 63.955 trillion won to 74.144 trillion won.


However, the proportion of the parent generation's share value decreased from 53.3% at the end of 2022 to 52.4% currently. On the other hand, the proportion of the child generation increased from 46.7% to 47.6%.


The large corporation with the largest increase in the child generation's share value proportion is Youngone Trading Group. At the end of 2022, it was only 0.8%, but it has now increased to 29.2%. Youngone Trading is undergoing a second-generation succession from Chairman Sung Ki-hak, the founder, to Vice Chairwoman Sung Rae-eun, his second daughter.


Hansol Group, which is preparing for third-generation succession, also saw the child generation's share value proportion increase from 19.7% at the end of 2022 to 45.1% currently. The share value proportion of Cho Yeon-ju, the eldest daughter of Chairman Cho Dong-hyuk and Vice Chairwoman of Hansol Chemical, expanded from 9.5% to 35.4% during this period.


Hyosung Group's child generation proportion, which was 77.9% at the end of 2022, further increased to 92.7%. Chairman Cho Hyun-joon's share value proportion rose from 34.7% to 51.0%. Hyosung Group, currently undergoing the inheritance of shares held by the late Honorary Chairman Cho Seok-rae, will be reorganized into a two-holding company system starting from the 1st of next month, consisting of the existing holding company Hyosung led by Chairman Cho Hyun-joon and the newly established holding company HS Hyosung led by Vice Chairman Cho Hyun-sang.
