"Ruining Business?" Daegu Public Official's Abuse Allegation, Finally Posted an Apology Letter

Apology Statement from Daegu Jung-gu Office Chief Published

The mayor of Daegu apologized amid controversy over district office employees allegedly abusing their power against a business owner by spilling beer at a restaurant.

Earlier, on the 13th, a post by a couple running a chicken restaurant, Mr. and Mrs. A, was uploaded to the self-employed online community "Apeunikka Sajangida" ("Because It Hurts, I'm the Boss"). According to Mr. A, on the 7th, four men estimated to be in their 40s to 50s visited just before closing time and ordered beer and chicken.

The couple first served the beer and brought the chicken about 10 minutes later. Shortly after, Mrs. A noticed beer spilled on the floor near their table and asked, "Did you spill water?" before wiping the floor. Then, some of the group who had left the store came back and verbally abused them.

The couple claimed that one of the group mocked them by saying, "What's the big deal about cleaning the floor? Did we pee on the floor? It's normal to spill beer. Are we running away without paying?" They also heard, "I've never seen a place like this. I'll make sure your business fails immediately." They stated that these middle-aged men seemed to be district office employees.

According to Daegu Jung-gu, all of these customers were confirmed to be employees of Daegu Jung-gu Office. On the 18th, the Jung-gu Office posted an apology titled "We sincerely apologize" on the district office website under the mayor's name.

The apology stated, "We apologize to the business owner, residents, and many others who have come across this incident regarding the controversy caused by the Jung-gu Office employees' beer incident. To address everyone's concerns about this matter, regardless of the reasons, we will conduct a thorough investigation to uncover the truth and take all administrative measures based on the results."

Jung-gu has started an internal investigation related to this controversy and plans to take disciplinary and other administrative actions once the investigation results are available.
