Mapo-gu Field District Office Operation, Creating Mugunghwa Flower Beds at Seongwon Elementary School and Other Environmental Improvements
District Allocates 5.7 Billion KRW in Education Subsidies This Year, Supporting 4th Industrial Revolution and Arts & Physical Education Programs
Park Gang-su, Mapo-gu Mayor, “We Will Provide the Best Educational Environment for Clear and Pure Mapo-gu Children”
Mapo-gu (Mayor Park Gang-su) expects the Mugunghwa flowers to bloom fully this year on the grounds of Seoul Seongwon Elementary School.
Last month on the 20th, Park Gang-su, Mayor of Mapo-gu, personally visited Seongwon Elementary School (Principal Son Mi-kyung) through the 'On-site Mayor's Office' initiative, which involves addressing issues directly at the site of civil complaints, and held a communication session with school officials and parents.
The Mugunghwa on the school grounds was planted along with flowers in the flowerbed at the main entrance of the school by Mapo-gu in response to the school's request for environmental improvement support. On the 14th, in return, Seongwon Elementary students wrote heartfelt letters by hand that have become a topic of interest.
Student Lee Hae-na (4th grade) wrote in her letter, "Thank you for planting the Mugunghwa, which represents our country. Every time I pass by, my patriotism fills up," adding, "I was so curious about what color the flowers would bloom that I even made a bet with my friends."
Student Joo Yeon-woo (4th grade) also expressed hope, saying, "Like the Mugunghwa, which means 'a flower that never withers and blooms forever,' I think my love for the country will continue to grow."
Additionally, Mapo-gu plans to carry out further improvement works for the safety of Seongwon Elementary students, including planting tall trees and rose vines to block the view along the walking paths in Saetteo Neighborhood Park next to the school, improving the walking path stairs, and maintaining wire mesh to prevent soil erosion.
They also announced that they have completed support for replacing and repairing old fire alarms and other fire and electrical equipment at Seongwon Elementary to prepare for safety accidents.
Mapo-gu has allocated 5.7 billion won in educational subsidies this year for kindergartens, elementary, middle, and high schools in the area to foster outstanding talents and create a quality educational environment.
The subsidies from Mapo-gu are used for operating after-school programs, activating arts and physical education programs such as music and sports, and supporting school-specific educational programs.
Especially this year, support for 4th Industrial Revolution education, which is key to future technologies, and experience programs to increase affection and pride for the local Mapo area have been included.
Mayor Park Gang-su said, "Reading the students' touching handwritten letters about feeling patriotism while looking at the Mugunghwa in the flowerbed reminded me once again of the true meaning of national defense and veterans' honor," adding, "We will do our best to support the children of Mapo-gu, who are pure and innocent, so that they can continue to dream happily and grow greatly in the best educational environment."
