As a recording file related to the perjury coaching trial of Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, managed by Yeogwon, was released, the prosecution stated on the 17th, "The release of the recording file of a ruling party politician has nothing to do with the prosecution."
The Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office issued a statement in the afternoon, saying, "The recording file was seized and secured from the parties involved in the case, was submitted as evidence in the trial of the case, and the defendants' lawyers applied for inspection and copying, and it was provided to the defendants," clarifying the matter.
They added, "The claim that the prosecution provided the recording file to a ruling party politician is an unfounded and baseless assertion that has not been confirmed at all." They also stated, "The prosecution will do its best to maintain the public prosecution strictly according to the procedures prescribed by law."
Earlier, Park Jeong-hoon, a member of the People Power Party, held a press conference at the National Assembly and released a recording file of a phone call between Lee and Kim Jin-sung (former secretary to Kim Byung-ryang, former mayor of Seongnam) around December 2018, claiming, "(Lee) is clearly coaching perjury." The approximately 4-minute recording included Lee telling Kim, "It seems that I was mainly the target, and this case had a very political background," and "I will send you a brief of the argument. Since it was our claim, please try to recall it."
Park said, "Evidence of perjury has been clearly secured through the recording," and argued, "If this case is not perjury coaching, then perjury coaching should disappear from the Criminal Act of the Republic of Korea because it is that clear."
