Suncheon Yulchon 1 Industrial Complex Newly Designated as a Specialized Cluster for Root Industries

Suncheon-si Root Companies, Improving Operational Environment and Securing Industrial Competitiveness

Suncheon City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Noh Gwan-gyu) announced on the 13th that Suncheon Yulchon 1st Industrial Complex (hereinafter Suncheon Yulchon Industrial Complex) was selected as the '2024 Root Industry Specialized Complex.'

The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (hereinafter MOTIE) held the 24th Root Industry Development Committee and officially designated the root industry cluster as a specialized complex on the 13th. Earlier, the city applied for the designation of the root industry specialized complex in March following MOTIE's announcement in February.

The root industry refers to technologies such as casting, mold, welding, surface treatment, heat treatment, and plastic processing, which are collectively called the foundation of manufacturing industries, playing a crucial role across the national industry.

A root industry specialized complex is a complex designated by MOTIE where companies engaged in root industries are concentrated. Designated complexes can apply for support projects to receive various assistance such as technology development support, utilization of industrial complex shared facilities, and strengthening corporate capabilities.

The designation of Suncheon Yulchon Industrial Complex as a "Root Industry Specialized Complex" is the second designation following the previously designated Haeryong General Industrial Complex in 2014, making two complexes selected in the Suncheon area.

Suncheon Yulchon Industrial Complex is an industrial complex gaining high popularity to the extent that it is difficult to find vacant land due to its excellent land and sea transportation environment and the superior residential environment of the nearby Shindae Back-up Complex.

Currently, 32 root industry companies are located in Suncheon Yulchon Industrial Complex, contributing as an engine driving the local economy.

Mayor Noh Gwan-gyu of Suncheon said, "This designation is expected to revitalize the local root industry and create a synergistic effect of co-growth with large companies such as Hanwha Aerospace, which are moving into Suncheon Yulchon Industrial Complex." He added, "We will do our best to make the city abundant in jobs by continuously paying attention to corporate growth so that companies can increase 'quality jobs.'"
