Fresh Storage of Horticultural Products Such as Fruits and Vegetables Receives Positive Response
Goheung-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Gong Young-min) announced that the small-scale cold storage support project for agricultural products is showing significant effects.
The county is investing an additional 630 million KRW this year, besides the 250 million KRW matched by the provincial government, to support 310 units of small-scale cold storage units, which have gained great popularity among farmers.
The county aims to distribute 1,200 units by 2026, supporting more than 300 units annually. This year as well, it plans to support over 300 units to enable small-scale farms to stably store and ship horticultural products.
Earlier, in February, the county selected eight qualified companies verified for construction capability to install small cold storage units. In March, 194 farms were confirmed, and in May, an additional 46 farms were confirmed, with 240 units currently being installed.
A county official stated, “Applications were low compared to this year’s project volume, indicating that the demand for small cold storage units among small-scale farms has been somewhat alleviated. From next year, we plan to secure the project budget through prior demand surveys.”
A farmer from Dohwa-myeon, who cultivates horticultural products, said, “Using the small cold storage unit, I keep the vegetables and greens harvested little by little every day fresh and sell them at the market. This project is essential for small-scale farmers.”
Meanwhile, the small-scale cold storage support project provides 9.9㎡ cold storage units, supporting 50% of the cost (6.3 million KRW per unit) for farms cultivating horticultural products such as fruit trees and vegetables on less than 2 hectares. Currently, during the 8th local government administration, the county has supported a total of 870 units with 2.49 billion KRW.
