Ground Traffic Lights, Runway-Style Crosswalks...Preventing Traffic Accidents
Plan to Pilot Lighting Towers at Major Intersections in Second Half of Year
Ulsan City, in cooperation with the Ulsan Metropolitan Police Agency, is implementing the "2024 Bright Roads Project" by installing lighting facilities at major crosswalks in dark and high-traffic intersections.
This project is being promoted to ensure traffic safety during rainy and nighttime hours and to reduce fatal accidents.
In the first half of the year, ground signal lights and runway-style crosswalks will be installed at 21 intersections, including the Yaeum Market intersection, where traffic accidents have occurred frequently. This aims to prevent pedestrian fatalities and improve crosswalk visibility for drivers.
Ulsan City will select project sites in consultation with relevant agencies, including the police, and plans to complete the project by August.
In the second half of the year, an additional five ground signal lights and runway-style crosswalks will be installed in five school zones, including Noksu and Nammok Elementary Schools, using a special disaster and safety management grant of 500 million KRW to enhance children's commuting safety.
Additionally, Ulsan City will pilot the installation of lighting towers at large intersections to prevent nighttime traffic fatalities and improve intersection landscapes.
A city official stated, "We will continue to discover and implement traffic safety and pedestrian environment improvement projects that citizens can truly feel, and do our best to create a safe and pleasant advanced traffic environment."
Since launching the Bright Roads pilot project in 2022, Ulsan City has installed ground signal lights at 23 intersections, including Donggu Office Intersection and 38 intersections in children's protection zones throughout the districts and counties, as well as runway-style crosswalks at 26 intersections, including Byeongyeong Five-way Intersection, through various projects to create a safer traffic environment.
