Plans to Explore Business Opportunities in Asia and North America
Gudai Global, which operates 'Joseon Beauty,' has acquired a stake in the gender-neutral beauty brand Laka. With the acquisition of Laka, Gudai Global is expected to further expand its business in Asia and North America.
According to the beauty industry on the 17th, Gudai Global acquired approximately 88% of the shares of Laka Cosmetics, the operator of the color cosmetics brand 'Laka,' for 42.5 billion KRW. Lee Min-mi, the founder of Laka Cosmetics, sold all her shares for 29.7 billion KRW through this merger and acquisition, seven years after founding the brand. Lee plans to continue participating in the brand's operation and growth as the overall director of the 'Laka' brand.
Launched in 2019 under the slogan "Color originally belongs to everyone," 'Laka' is Lee Min-mi's first beauty brand, who previously worked as an advertising director. As Korea's first gender-neutral makeup brand, it was stocked in over 700 Olive Young stores nationwide within six months of its launch. In 2020, it entered the Japanese market by being listed on Qoo10 Japan, the country's largest open marketplace. Laka's flagship product, the 'Fruity Glam Tint,' has ranked first in both sales volume and sales amount across all categories in the point makeup segment for 11 consecutive quarters.
Through the acquisition of Laka, Gudai Global is expected to seek business opportunities not only in Korea and Japan but also in other parts of Asia and North America. Additionally, together with TIRTIR, which it acquired last month, Gudai Global has established a strong portfolio chain in Japan, the world's third-largest beauty market.
