Expansion of Age Range for This Year's 'Bookstart' Program
Pickup Available at 8 Public Libraries
Gangseo-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Jin Gyo-hoon) announced on the 17th that it will carry out the ‘Bookstart’ project, which gifts book packages to young children.
The Bookstart project is a reading campaign promoted jointly by Bookstart Korea and local governments with the aim of "starting life with books." Last year, the district targeted children under 35 months, but this year, the project has been expanded to include preschool children.
There are three types of book packages: Bookstart Mom Support (Stage 1), Bookstart Plus (Stage 2), and Bookstart Treasure Box (Stage 3). Among these, the district supports Stages 2 and 3. Stage 2 targets children aged 12 to 35 months, and Stage 3 targets children aged 36 months up to preschool age. The book packages include an eco-bag for carrying books, two types of picture books, and a guidebook explaining the Bookstart method step-by-step according to the child's age.
Those interested can receive the package immediately by visiting one of the eight district public libraries with a resident registration certificate and ID, without a reservation. However, since each library has different closing days, it is recommended to inquire in advance before visiting.
Stage 1 (from 3 months pregnant to 3 months after birth) is a Seoul city project, and those who wish to participate can apply online through the ‘Seoul City Pregnant Women Transportation Expense Support System.’ For more details, contact the Gangseo-gu Education Support Division or any of the district public libraries.
