Seocho-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jeon Seong-su) has signed a business agreement with four local hair salons to expand the operation of ‘Disability-Friendly Hair Salons’ starting from the 1st of next month.

The district announced on the 17th that it selected a total of four private hair salons, one in each local area, as disability-friendly hair salons and signed business agreements with them at the district office on the 13th.

To expand disability-friendly hair salons, the district plans to check whether there are any inconveniences in accessing the agreed salons and support the installation of wheelchair ramps if there are thresholds at the existing entrances.

Additionally, plaques indicating that the salons are disability-friendly will be posted to allow people with disabilities to enter without burden, and signs will be attached to inform all customers about the presence of guide dogs for the disabled.

The salons designated as disability-friendly hair salons are ▲Libette Hair (Seocho-dong) ▲Kim Kyung-hee Hair Sketch (Banpo-dong) ▲She’s Hair Salon (Bangbae-dong) ▲Stylist Park Min (Yangjae-dong). Through the voluntary participation of the salons involved in the agreement, a 10% discount will be applied to customers with disabilities who present a disability certificate.

This expansion of disability-friendly hair salons by the district follows residents’ requests to expand such projects after the existing disability-only hair salon ‘Hair Hanuri’ gained popularity.

‘Hair Hanuri’ is a hair salon exclusively for people with disabilities, which opened last October inside the Seocho-gu Disabled Welfare Center (Hanuri Information and Culture Center). The entrance has no threshold, allowing free wheelchair access, and it is equipped with various convenience facilities for people with disabilities. In addition, professional hairdressers and dedicated social workers are stationed to communicate with users and check for any inconveniences.

Due to these advantages, ‘Hair Hanuri’ has been very popular, with over 600 users so far, but since it is operated by only one hairdresser at a single location, there have been difficulties meeting high demand, with waiting times for reservations sometimes reaching two months. The district’s expansion of disability-friendly hair salons is a measure to meet resident demand through agreements with private hair salons.

Mayor Jeon Seong-su said, “I thank the disability-friendly hair salons that participated in this agreement, and I will continue to strive to promote various support projects for people with disabilities so that they can enjoy their daily lives without inconvenience.”
