Support for Injured and Fallen Firefighters and Their Bereaved Families
BGF Retail, the operator of CU, announced on the 17th that it has donated a sponsorship fund of 10 million KRW, raised from the sales of ‘Yeongung Beer,’ to the Firefighter Family Hope Sharing organization.
The sponsorship donation ceremony took place on the 14th at the Fire Agency building in Sejong City, attended by Lee Seung-taek, head of the liquor team at BGF Retail, and Park Hyun-sook, CEO of the nonprofit Firefighter Family Hope Sharing affiliated with the National Fire Agency.

Since January, CU has launched Yeongung Beer to ease customers’ cost burdens, selling it at 1,500 KRW per can, the lowest price for domestic beer. Despite not being a low-cost sparkling beer, its ‘Godseongbi’ (great cost-effectiveness) with a price nearly half that of regular beer has attracted attention, resulting in cumulative sales of 400,000 cans within five months of its launch.
In line with the planning purpose of Yeongung Beer, which is ‘There is a hero by our side even in difficult times,’ CU raised the sponsorship fund to repay the sacrifice and dedication of firefighters who protect the lives of the people and donated it to Firefighter Family Hope Sharing.
The donation will be used to support firefighters injured or who died in the line of duty at fire and other accident scenes, as well as their bereaved families. Specifically, it will be used for counseling projects to stabilize the mental health of firefighter families and academic support projects for their children. CU plans to continuously monitor these projects and maintain interest in follow-up initiatives.
CU plans to prepare special sponsorship funds using future profits from Yeongung Beer sales. These funds will be used for recipients of the ‘Child Safety Citizen Award,’ given to citizens who contribute to child safety activities, and for citizen heroes who have courageously extended helping hands to neighbors in society.
Lee Seung-taek, head of the liquor team at BGF Retail, said, “This donation was made to honor the national hero firefighters who dedicate themselves to the life and safety of the people,” adding, “BGF Retail will continue various ESG activities to spread positive influence as a good friend to customers and local communities.”
