Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Choi Ho-kwon) announced that the Yeongdeungpo Cultural School, operated directly by the district, will introduce and operate a ‘Priority Registration System for Residents’ to expand educational opportunities in culture and arts for district residents.
The Priority Registration System for Residents will be applied starting from the registration for the third quarter cultural courses this year. The priority registration period for residents is from June 17 to 21, and the general registration period is from June 24 to 28, during which anyone, including residents who missed the priority registration period, can apply.
In particular, to provide more learning opportunities to residents, the district allows students, office workers, and business owners who attend schools or workplaces located within the district but whose registered residence is not in Yeongdeungpo-gu to also apply during the priority registration period. However, during the priority registration period, only ‘in-person registration’ at the Yeongdeungpo Cultural School is possible, and registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. During the general registration period, online registration through the district office website’s ‘Integrated Reservation Service’ or in-person registration at the Yeongdeungpo Cultural School with a mobile phone registered in the applicant’s name and identification is available.
The third quarter cultural courses will run from July 1 to September 30 and consist of a total of 127 courses across six categories: ▲20 traditional culture courses ▲13 language courses ▲28 arts and culture courses ▲33 music courses ▲20 health culture courses ▲13 lifestyle culture courses.
Additionally, the Yeongdeungpo Cultural School plans to expand weekday evening programs and Saturday programs this quarter, considering the lifestyles of office workers, children, and adolescents. ▲Weekday evening programs include four courses: Taijiquan, saxophone, meditation qigong, and Hawaiian hula. ▲Saturday programs include seven courses: children’s Korean calligraphy, Saturday drum class, Saturday well-being dance, youth tarot school, youth drum class, K-POP broadcast dance, and children’s Korean traditional dance.
As a result of the second quarter operation, a total of 1,558 students applied for courses at the Yeongdeungpo Cultural School, with 1,525 completing the courses, showing a 97.9% completion rate, and successfully concluding the second quarter amid strong interest from residents.
The tuition fee ranges from 10,000 to 50,000 KRW per month depending on the course. After applying, payment can be made by transferring to the district office account or by card payment at the Yeongdeungpo Cultural School office. Basic livelihood security recipients, registered persons with disabilities, and national merit recipients can receive a 50% discount on tuition fees upon presenting relevant supporting documents and identification.
Choi Ho-kwon, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo-gu, stated, “Yeongdeungpo-gu is the only legal cultural city in Seoul and is vigorously advancing as a public cultural hub where culture can be created and enjoyed 365 days a year.” He added, “We will continue to do our best to operate the Yeongdeungpo Cultural School so that residents can easily access culture in their daily lives and enjoy a rich life.”
