Sentosa Beach in Singapore Covered in Black Streaks Due to Oil Tanker Collision

An oil tanker collided at a southern port in Singapore, causing oil slicks to cover nearby beaches for the second consecutive day.

According to foreign media on the 15th (local time), the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) stated in a press release that at around 2:40 PM on the 14th, the Dutch-registered dredger 'Vox Maxima' collided with the Singapore-registered oil tanker 'Marine Honor' that was anchored at Pasir Panjang Port.

The accident caused oil carried by the Marine Honor to spill. Although measures such as shutting off the oil tank connections were taken, as of the 15th, the resort beaches on Sentosa Island remain covered in oil, appearing as black streaks. The island is located about 10 km from the spill port.

Oil spill response vessels were dispatched to the site and began oil removal operations from the afternoon of the same day. Access to major beaches has been prohibited as of the 15th. The MPA stated that despite the accident, navigation safety and anchoring operations have not been affected.
