"Former Soldier Sentenced to 7 Years for Forcing Wife into Adult Broadcasts... 'I Was the Victim,' He Claims"

Prosecution Seeks 7-Year Prison Sentence... "Extremely Malicious Crime"
"Please Avenge My Daughter" Victim's Father Cries Out in Court

The prosecution has requested a 7-year prison sentence for a former soldier who forced his wife to appear in adult broadcasts. The defense denied some charges, including confinement, and pleaded for leniency from the court.

On the 14th, at the sentencing hearing held at the Incheon District Court Criminal Division 5 (Judge Hong Jun-seo), the prosecution requested a 7-year prison term for male defendant A (37), who was detained and indicted on charges including violation of the Information and Communications Network Act (distribution of obscene materials), confinement, and intimidation. The prosecution stated, "The defendant posted nude photos of his spouse and confined and threatened her," adding, "The victim has suffered mental distress as a result. The nature of the crime is extremely serious," as the reason for the sentence request.

In response, A’s lawyer argued, "Please consider that the defendant did not distribute obscene materials against the victim’s will among the charges," and added, "Through this case, the defendant has clearly understood that distributing obscene materials, even with the consent of the photographed subject, is a crime, and he pledges never to commit such acts again."

Regarding the charge of sending threatening messages to the victim, the lawyer said, "There was no intention to cause harm," and asked the court to consider that the messages were sent out of a hope to reunite the family once again.

The defense claimed innocence on the confinement charge, stating, "The defendant was in a subordinate position dependent on the victim’s broadcasting income," and requested the court to acquit the defendant of confinement charges, considering that he was not in a position to confine the victim.

Wearing a blue prison uniform, A appeared in court and in his final statement said, "I deeply regret my actions," and "If shown mercy, I will live the rest of my life properly."

At the hearing, the victim’s father, given the opportunity to speak, tearfully said, "I want to clear my daughter’s grievances," and "Please punish him severely to prevent other victims from emerging."

He appealed, "A forced my daughter to appear in adult broadcasts, and when she refused, he threatened to send nude photos to her father," adding, "A flaunted himself with luxury cars, designer clothes, and sneakers bought with income from adult broadcasts." He continued, "A made my daughter a slave by telling her not to meet or call her father," and said, "Since my daughter’s death, I cannot sleep without medication and have quit my job."

A is charged with posting nude photos of a woman online 98 times in 2011 (distribution of obscene materials under the Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilization and Information Protection). At that time, he was an active-duty soldier and was forcibly discharged due to this incident.

From 2021 to 2023, he was detained and indicted on charges including forcing his wife, a woman in her 30s named B, to film sexual videos and appear in adult broadcasts. It is understood that he confined B at home multiple times when she refused his demands.

This case came to light after B left a suicide note and died at home in December last year. Meanwhile, A’s sentencing trial is scheduled for the 12th of next month in courtroom 412 at the Incheon District Court.
