The Busan Modern and Contemporary History Museum will present a variety of cultural events featuring history and music to citizens this July.

First, on July 20 at 2 p.m., the "Everyone's Annex" event will be held at the annex in collaboration with the local performance group "Busan Opera Association" (represented by Yoon Jangmi).

"Everyone's Annex" is a cultural event jointly organized by the museum and the private sector to discover outstanding humanities content and provide opportunities to introduce it to the public.

The "Busan Opera Association," which is participating in the joint planning, is a cooperative of performers located in Jung-gu, Busan, supporting the activities of professional opera musicians and discovering and nurturing emerging artists.

Based on its abundant human resources, the association plans and produces creative operas featuring local stories, and presents "audience-engaged performances" at its own opera venue, the B.O.F. Art Hall.

At the July "Everyone's Annex" event, the Busan Opera Association will present a creative performance commemorating the achievements of independence activist Baeksan Ahn Heeje. The performance will include a newly composed art song inspired by Ahn Heeje's classical poetry "Mugunghwaja Mugunghwaja" and rearranged versions of five to six well-known musical numbers. The performers will share historical facts between songs, making it an excellent educational program for both adults and youth.

Following this, the annex, which hosts monthly performance programs, will invite singer-songwriter Nacca for a performance themed "A Healing Future."

Nacca, originally from Tokyo, Japan, has been living in Busan since 2014, engaging in music and various cultural activities as a singer-songwriter. She began writing and singing songs at age 18 and released her first album in 2013.

She has participated in the planning and production of several project albums promoting the coexistence of humans and nature, including the compilation album "Purification" (2021). This album was produced in collaboration with indie musicians from Busan to oppose the discharge of contaminated water from the Fukushima nuclear power plant. Through her song "Splash of Light," Nacca conveys the message of solidarity across borders and languages.

At the monthly performance "A Healing Future" on July 27 at 4 p.m., Nacca will present her original songs such as "Yunseul," "Morning Sunlight," and "Resonance," expressing her hope to comfort and heal the pain caused by discord between people and between people and nature through music.

In addition to music, Nacca is also a vegan chef and cultural planner, actively working to bring about social change based in Busan. Her works "Strata of the Plate" and "The Disappeared Pine Tree" are currently being exhibited at the Busan Museum of Contemporary Art as part of the exhibition "This Is Not Busan: Tactical Practices." Her diverse activities as a singer-songwriter for coexistence between humans and nature, as well as her experiences as a migrant woman, will be shared during the talk session.

All interested citizens can participate in the programs free of charge. Applications for "Everyone's Annex" open on the 15th, and for the monthly performance on the 25th. Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis through the museum's website.

Kim Kiyong, director of the Busan Modern and Contemporary History Museum, stated, "We have prepared an opportunity to experience the region's history through music and to reflect on coexistence with nature through music. We look forward to your interest and participation."
