Expulsion Upon Confirmation of a Fine Exceeding 1 Million Won for Sexual Crimes

A public official in his 30s who illegally filmed a woman's body visible through a window gap was sentenced to prison and is facing the loss of his public official status.

On the 14th, Yonhap News reported that Judge Shin Dong-il of the Chuncheon District Court Criminal Division 1 sentenced Mr. A (34), who was indicted for filming using a camera under the Sexual Violence Punishment Act, to one year in prison with a two-year probation. Additionally, Judge Shin ordered Mr. A to perform 80 hours of community service and attend 40 hours of sexual violence treatment lectures.

Mr. A is accused of illegally filming twice with his mobile phone camera through the veranda window gap of Mr. B's house in June and July of last year, after discovering that the victim was naked and her legs were visible. Judge Shin stated, "The fact that the victim was filmed inside her residence, which is a serious offense, and that there was no consent from the victim are unfavorable factors," but also explained the sentencing by considering "that this is a first offense with no prior criminal record."

Furthermore, under the National Public Officials Act, a public official who commits a sexual crime and is sentenced to a fine of 1 million won or more, with the sentence finalized, shall be automatically dismissed from office.
