Investing 12.45 Billion Won to Expand Open Reading and Community Spaces
Cheonan Central Library reopened on the 14th after more than two years of a full remodeling.
The Central Library, which was closed for remodeling since June 2022, completed the final inspection process for its official opening through a trial operation from the 12th to the 13th.
The remodeling project of the Central Library, aimed at improving outdated facilities and enhancing user convenience, was designed with the concept of a library embracing nature. The building has one basement floor and four above-ground floors, covering an area of 4,824㎡, with a total project cost of 12.45 billion KRW.
In particular, the library expanded open reading spaces and community areas to allow visitors to enjoy reading, free discussions, gatherings, and various cultural programs.
Additionally, the library differentiated itself from others by establishing the ‘Cheonanhak Archive’ and a youth-only space called ‘1318 Chaeum.’ To address the chronic issue of insufficient parking, part of the Jeil High School grounds was secured to expand the parking area.
A representative of the Central Library stated, “As the first library in Cheonan, the Central Library is a cherished space loved by many Cheonan citizens. We will continue to operate the newly renovated library with our best efforts so that people can reminisce about the past and enjoy the present, making it a landmark of Cheonan City.”
