"More Affordable"... GS25 Launches Imperfect Chodang Corn and Potatoes

Upcoming Release of Agricultural Products Including Chaloksusu Corn and Jadu Plums

Convenience store GS25 announced on the 14th that it will introduce seasonal agricultural products for June, including sweet corn and potatoes.

The sweet corn and potatoes being launched this time are "ugly" products, prepared to offer customers seasonal agricultural products at more affordable prices amid high inflation. Ugly products refer to items that have poor appearance but no issues in taste and quality. Irregularly sized and shaped fruits and vegetables are typical examples. Recently, as more consumers practice rational consumption, demand for ugly products has significantly increased.

Starting from the 14th of this month, GS25 will sell "Ugly Sweet Corn 2-pack" from Jeju Island with the husks removed at offline stores for 4,900 won. From the 16th, "Ugly Potatoes 800g" from open-field cultivation will be offered until the end of the month for 2,500 won.

GS25 expects strong customer demand for sweet corn, a popular summer snack, and nutrient-rich potatoes in season. In fact, the event for sweet corn 3-pack at 3,900 won, held through pre-order on the "Our Neighborhood GS" app on the 11th, sold out all 300 prepared units in one day. Additionally, it is expected that ugly products will help promote domestic agricultural product consumption and support local farms.

In line with the increasing trend of nearby shoppers doing their grocery shopping at convenience stores, GS25 plans to consecutively launch seasonal fruits and vegetables such as sweet corn and potatoes in June, glutinous corn and plums in July, peaches in August, and new sweet potatoes in September. They also plan to introduce "ugly" products that can help stabilize prices and support local farms.

Yang Hee-jin, MD of the Fresh Food Enhancement Team at GS Retail, said, "In response to the increasing trend of nearby shoppers, we aim to provide quality agricultural products at reasonable prices by launching seasonal fruits, vegetables, and ugly products at convenience stores. We will actively introduce seasonal products that have been hard to find at convenience stores to meet customer needs."
