The technology development center of Semes, the largest semiconductor equipment manufacturer in South Korea, will be established in the Yongin Giheung Future City Advanced Industrial Complex in Gyeonggi Province, with an investment of 250 billion KRW.

Gyeonggi Province announced on the 14th that the "Yongin Giheung Future City Advanced Industrial Complex Development Plan" was conditionally approved at the 3rd Gyeonggi Province Local Industrial Complex Planning Review Committee held on April 17 and the subcommittee meeting held on May 29. Following this approval, Semes is expected to begin construction of the technology development center as early as October.

The Yongin Giheung Future City Advanced Industrial Complex is an industrial complex covering 90,000 square meters with an investment of 255.6 billion KRW.

Semes is a manufacturer of essential semiconductor production process equipment such as cleaning and photo track facilities. Its related technologies have been designated as national core technologies, playing a pivotal role in strengthening semiconductor competitiveness and domestic production of equipment. The development of this industrial complex is expected to generate production inducement effects exceeding 200 billion KRW and employment inducement effects of more than 4,000 jobs.

Gyeonggi Province plans to create the world's largest semiconductor cluster by supporting the semiconductor material, parts, and equipment industry base, as well as fostering fabless companies, alongside semiconductor production bases such as the Yongin Semiconductor Cluster and the Pyeongtaek Godeok Internationalization Planning District.

Song Eun-sil, head of the Semiconductor Industry Division of Gyeonggi Province, said, "We have done our best to support administrative procedures for the swift approval of the Giheung Future City Advanced Industrial Complex," adding, "We will cooperate with Yongin City and others to promptly proceed with the remaining administrative procedures so that domestic companies can secure an advantage in global technology competition."

Earlier, in August 2021, Gyeonggi Province signed an investment agreement with Yongin City and Semes for the construction of the Semes Yongin R&D Center.
