Department of Advertising and Public Relations at Dongmyung University Presents 'Barrier-Free' at Disabled Media Festival

Five Proposals for Creating a Barrier-Free Environment Announced

"A world without inconvenience caused by visual and hearing impairments?couldn't we create such a world together?"

The Department of Advertising and Public Relations at Tongmyong University (President Jeon Ho-hwan) participated in the opening ceremony of the 18th Disabled Media Festival held at the Busan Audience Media Center on the 12th and presented five proposals for creating a barrier-free environment in the Busan area.

Twenty-three students from the department proposed the following: ▲Revitalizing the business district of Ilgwang Beach through barrier-free initiatives (Choi Irim, Son Ayeon, Kim Chanwoo, Jung Hocheol) ▲A barrier-free campus for international students (Jung Jiweon, Park Hyobin, Park Yukyung, Cha Eunseo) ▲A popup store applying barrier-free concepts (Noh Hongbi, Kim Junyoung, Kim Hyojin, Shim Hyeonhee, Jo Eunseo) ▲Improvement of barrier-free access for people with physical disabilities at Namgu National Sports Center (Jung Hyeonhun, Jeon Heeryeong, Seo Jihyun, Lee Minhyeok, Nguyen Thi Diem Mi), and more.

The students identified local barrier-free issues based on theoretical learning about human rights and barrier-free concepts, as well as news reading. They sought solutions through analysis of various reports and academic papers, big data news analysis (BigKinds), field surveys, and interviews with stakeholders. Problems and solutions derived from brainstorming, Mandal-Art, and mind mapping methodologies were connected to propose creative solutions.

Along with their presentations, the students also had the opportunity to receive feedback from experts in the field, including Bae Byeonggu, senior researcher at the Busan Audience Media Center of the Audience Media Foundation, and Kim Jeongmi, director of the Haeundae Center for Independent Living for the Disabled.

Choi Irim, team leader of the group presenting the plan to revitalize the Ilgwang Beach business district, said, "Through various proposals and expert feedback on barrier-free initiatives, we gained a deeper understanding of the importance of creating a barrier-free environment in the local community. Watching the barrier-free film 'Minari' made me realize the significance and necessity of sign language broadcasting and audio description services."

The Department of Advertising and Public Relations at Tongmyong University is enhancing students' problem-solving abilities, civic awareness, and human rights consciousness through university-community cooperation classes with the Busan Audience Media Center and Living Lab classes that emphasize solving local community issues together with the community.

On the 18th, a presentation for the 6th Public Service Advertisement Contest will also be held at the public hall of the Busan Audience Media Center. The barrier-free proposals created by the students will be released on the Tongmyong University Department of Advertising and Public Relations website later this month.
