"Cool Down with Bottled Water"… Yongin City Provides Constant Supply at Mobile Workers' Shelters

Measures for Safety of Private Workplaces and Mobile Workers Amid Heatwave
Inspection of Compliance with Heat Illness Prevention Rules in Construction and Manufacturing Sites

Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 13th that it will strengthen heatwave response safety measures for small-scale private construction and manufacturing workplaces and mobile workers within the city in anticipation of the upcoming intense heat.

The city will enhance inspections and guidance at industrial sites vulnerable to heat. Labor safety guardians will visit private construction and manufacturing workplaces to check compliance with heat illness prevention rules and guide workers to avoid working during the hottest hours. The labor safety guardians designate one day each month as Safety Inspection Day to visit sites and conduct safety campaigns. Starting in July, they will also carry out an ice water sharing campaign to prepare for the heatwave.

Additionally, the city will keep bottled water available at the 'Mobile Workers' Shelter' in Jukjeon-dong, Suji-gu, until September. This shelter serves as a simple resting place for workers such as delivery drivers, substitute drivers, and taxi drivers who do not have a regular place to rest. The bottled water is provided through the city's participation in the Gyeonggi Province bottled water sharing campaign.

On the 28th, the city will also conduct training to strengthen the capacity for preventing major accidents for small private workplaces with fewer than 50 employees within the city at the International Conference Room of the Yongin Culture and Arts Center. A professional instructor from the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency will explain the 'Serious Accidents Punishment Act' and clearly present key information that workplaces need to know for heatwave prevention and industrial accident prevention. Any workplace with fewer than 50 employees located in Yongin City can apply for the training regardless of industry.

A city official stated, "We will do our best to create a safe working environment for construction workers and mobile workers who are particularly vulnerable to heatwaves."
