Creation of Curved Streets with Garden-Style Green Belts and Pocket Rest Areas around Sadang-ro 23-gil and 27-gil
Dongjak-gu (Mayor Park Il-ha) is creating garden-style green belts in the city to provide resting spaces for pedestrians and residents, offering beautiful and pleasant tree-lined streets.
The district announced plans to improve urban aesthetics and revitalize the local commercial area through the "Distinctive Tree-lined Street Creation Project" in the area around Sadang-ro 23-gil and 27-gil.
Until now, this section has been a busy area near apartment complexes and crosswalks with high foot traffic, but due to poor plant growth conditions, it lacked ornamental elements such as flowers and autumn foliage, and had no resting spaces.
Accordingly, through the "Distinctive Tree-lined Street" project, the district will remove poorly growing trees within the existing 350-meter-long green belts in each section, plant specialized species, and transform them into garden-style pocket rest areas.
For this project, the district completed the design service earlier this month and will invest about 140 million KRW to begin the main construction in July, aiming for completion in September.
On "Sadang-ro 23-gil Street," 23 crape myrtle trees will be planted along with four new garden-style pocket rest areas, and in the "Sadang-ro 27-gil area," 41 bokeum trees and a mini garden of suhocho will be created.
In particular, crape myrtle trees bloom red flowers in summer, and bokeum trees turn red with autumn leaves, allowing visitors to enjoy a colorful street throughout the seasons.
Additionally, a total of 2,611 trees of 40 species including large trees, shrubs, and herbaceous plants will be planted around the green belts to enhance the greenery.
Meanwhile, in March, the district launched the "Barefoot Dongjak" project to create 61 barefoot paths such as one clay road per neighborhood, allowing residents to heal their body and mind in daily urban life.
Currently, Dongjak-gu has opened barefoot clay paths in four parks: Boramae, Sangdo, Hyeonchung, and Daebang, and plans to add six more locations by the end of this month, including Gogudongsan, Nodeulnaru, Seodalsan (next to Saimdang Cafe), Kkachisan, Dohwa, and Samil Parks.
Park Il-ha, Mayor of Dongjak-gu, said, "By creating distinctive tree-lined streets, we will improve the level of urban green spaces and provide healing spaces for residents," adding, "We will continue to develop Dongjak-gu as the best healing city where people can feel nature and take walks in everyday spaces."
