"Character is Future Competitiveness"... Dobong-gu Operates 'Creative Character School' to Catch Both Creativity and Character

Dobong-gu (Mayor Oh Eon-seok) is operating the ‘Dobong Creative Character School’ for elementary schools in the area until the 26th of this month.

The ‘Dobong Creative Character School’ is a newly launched school support project by the district this year to nurture future talents who cultivate both proper character and creative capabilities.

A district official stated, “Among the important values we must uphold despite technological advancements and changes in the times is character,” adding, “The character developed through the ‘Dobong Creative Character School’ can serve as a future competitive advantage when children enter society.”

This year, Changnim Elementary School, Sinbanghak Elementary School, Obong Elementary School, Changwon Elementary School, Sungmi Elementary School, and Sinhak Elementary School are participating in the ‘Dobong Creative Character School.’ Previously, the district received applications from schools and selected six schools.

The ‘Dobong Creative Character School’ is conducted in the form of experiential etiquette classes at the selected schools, with character education specialists in charge of the instruction. The educational program includes activities themed around ? (courtesy), 孝 (filial piety), and 仁 (benevolence), such as ▲Hanbok wearing experience ▲Proper greeting practice ▲Writing filial piety messages ▲Making dasik (traditional tea snacks) ▲Experiencing traditional games.

In addition to in-school classes, outdoor lessons are also planned. The outdoor lessons involve students visiting local historical and cultural sites such as the Kansong Old House, providing programs to enhance their understanding of the region’s history and traditions.

A school official said, “Education conducted at historical and cultural sites outside the school is expected to capture both the students’ interest and educational effectiveness.”

Oh Eon-seok, Mayor of Dobong-gu, said, “The district’s passion for creative and character education is evident, having enacted the ‘Ordinance on Support for Creative and Character Education in Dobong-gu, Seoul’ in November 2023. This ‘Creative Character School’ is part of that effort,” and added, “We will continue to collaborate with local schools to develop various educational programs that foster students’ proper character and creativity.”
