Former Busan Mayor Oh Keo-don, who was sentenced to three years in prison for forcibly molesting a female employee, will be released at the end of this month upon completion of his sentence.
According to the legal community on the 12th, Oh is scheduled to complete his sentence and be released from Busan Detention Center on the morning of the 26th.
Oh was indicted in January 2021 on charges of forcibly molesting employee A, who was affiliated with the Busan city government, in November 2018 after being elected as Busan mayor in June of the same year, and attempting to molest A again, which was unsuccessful.
In the following year, Oh was also charged with molesting employee B and causing injuries including post-traumatic stress disorder.
Oh confessed to the forcible molestation in April 2020 and resigned from his mayoral position. Subsequently, he was tried and sentenced to three years in prison in the first trial in June 2021 and was taken into custody in court.
When the original verdict was upheld in the appeal trial in February 2022, he gave up on further appeals, finalizing his sentence.
After being detained, Oh was also indicted on charges of abuse of authority and obstruction of the exercise of rights for coercing nine executives and employees of six public institutions under the Busan city government to submit resignations from August 2018 to January 2019. In the appeal trial last January, he was sentenced to one year and six months in prison with a two-year probation.
The Supreme Court dismissed both Oh’s and the prosecution’s appeals on the 30th of last month, finalizing the sentence for this case as well.
