Active in Yi-sa Activities Since 2016... Leading the Promotion of Martial Arts
On the 12th, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism appointed Cho Gil-hyeong, Mayor of Chungju City, as the new chairman of the UNESCO International Martial Arts Center. He has been serving as a director since the center's establishment in 2016 and has been promoting martial arts policies. He operates the Chungju City Taekkyeon Center and the Municipal Taekkyeon Center, and has also designated Taekkyeon schools.
Song Yoon-seok, Sports Cooperation Officer at the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said, "The UNESCO International Martial Arts Center is the only international organization related to martial arts under UNESCO," adding, "With the Mayor of Chungju, who has provided significant support for the development of martial arts, appointed as chairman, we expect this to greatly contribute to the global development of martial arts as well as the preservation and expansion of Korean martial arts."
The International Martial Arts Center is a UNESCO-supported institution established with the goal of preserving martial arts and promoting social participation of youth and women. It carries out UNESCO strategic implementation projects such as global martial arts research and knowledge sharing, enhancing cooperation between developed and developing countries, and strengthening youth capabilities.
