Professors at Severance Hospital, Gangnam Severance Hospital, and Yongin Severance Hospital will begin an indefinite strike starting from the 27th.
The Emergency Response Committee of Yonsei University College of Medicine (ERC) announced this decision in a resolution on the 12th. The ERC stated, "We have resolved to implement an indefinite strike starting from the 27th until the government takes visible measures to resolve the current medical and medical education crisis."
The ERC revealed that a survey conducted from the 9th to the 11th among all 735 professors at Yonsei University College of Medicine and its affiliated hospitals showed that 531 (72.2%) responded that they would take an indefinite strike stance and carry it out. Among the professors, 448 (61%) said they would support and participate in the ERC's indefinite strike implementation plan if the strike is decided, while 219 (29.8%) said they would decide based on each implementation plan issue. Only 68 (9.2%) responded negatively.
The scope of the strike includes all outpatient care and non-emergency surgeries and procedures, excluding emergency rooms, intensive care units, dialysis rooms, and delivery rooms.
