The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy held the 24th Root Industry Development Committee meeting to review and approve the '2024 Root Industry Specialized Complex Designation Plan' and announced on the 12th that four excellent root industry clusters in Jeonnam (Yulchon), Chungnam (Yesan New Materials), Gyeonggi (Banwol Dyeing), and Busan (Textile Dyeing and Processing) have been designated and notified as specialized complexes.
Additionally, the Ministry decided on support projects for nine existing designated specialized complexes, including the Ulsan 3D Printing Root Industry Specialized Complex and the Wanju Root Industry Specialized Complex, and plans to invest 6 billion KRW of national funds to establish shared facilities and support joint innovation activities.
Since 2013, under the "Act on the Promotion and Advancement of Root Industries," the Ministry has designated a total of 58 specialized complexes across 14 local governments up to this year, and supported 103 projects including energy supply facility construction and logistics efficiency improvements with a total national budget of 64.3 billion KRW.
The Ministry stated that it will continue to strengthen support based on specialized complexes to improve the environment and innovation of root companies, and to create synergy through close linkage with regional strategic industries.
