Osan City Begins Operation of 'Safe Shelter for Domestic and Sexual Violence Victims'

Collaboration with LH to Create Space in Residential Housing
Police Station Handles Resident Selection and Security Management

Osan City in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 11th that it has prepared a 'Safe Shelter' where victims of domestic and sexual violence within the city can be protected in a safe space, and began operating it from the 10th.

The city explained that the newly prepared 'Safe Shelter' is not a conventional lodging facility but a residential housing within the city, designed to provide victims with minor children a safer space for more attentive protection and support.

In particular, the Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH) is responsible for remodeling and facility management for the establishment and operation of the shelter, while the Osan Police Station handles the selection of residents and security and safety management, establishing a collaborative system.

Earlier, since February, Osan City and the Osan Police Station have been operating a joint response team to provide one-stop support for victims of domestic and sexual violence. The joint response team offers psychological counseling for victims, creates healing spaces, and carries out various projects to support victims and their families.

Lee Gwon-jae, Mayor of Osan City, said, "It is meaningful that a space has been prepared where victims of domestic and sexual violence and their families can find mental and physical stability and live their daily lives safely," adding, "We will actively strive for the recovery of victims going forward."
