The donation ceremony was attended by Ulsan Mayor Kim Dukyum, S-OIL Ulsan CLX Head Kim Bochan, Ulsan University Hospital Director Jung Yungki, and Ulsan Community Chest of Korea Chairman Jeon Youngdo. S-OIL provided 100 million won to Ulsan University Hospital for the operation of the "Doctor Car" and 220 million won to the Ulsan Community Chest of Korea.
The 100 million won delivered to Ulsan University Hospital will be used for the operation of the "Doctor Car," known as an emergency room on wheels. The 220 million won donated to the Ulsan Community Chest of Korea will be allocated as follows: 100 million won for rice support for neighbors in need in the Ulsan area, 65 million won for organizations and facilities for people with disabilities, and 55 million won for veterans' organizations and national merit recipients.
Unlike regular ambulances that are staffed only by nurses or paramedics, the "Doctor Car" is a system where a specialist in surgery or emergency medicine and a nurse board the vehicle to directly treat and transport patients. In the event of severe trauma cases, this allows specialized medical personnel to transfer patients within the golden hour, dramatically reducing mortality rates.
The Ulsan regional "Doctor Car" was piloted at Ulsan University Hospital starting in September 2017 but was temporarily suspended in early 2019 due to a lack of operating funds. However, in May 2019, S-OIL donated 100 million won as part of its community contribution program, helping to resume the operation of the Doctor Car, which is directly linked to the lives of Ulsan citizens.
The "Doctor Car," operated by the Ulsan University Hospital Regional Trauma Center, is currently staffed by 10 dedicated trauma doctors and 19 dedicated and support nurses. Over the past seven years, it has saved the precious lives of 165 people.
Kim Bochan, Head of S-OIL Ulsan CLX, said, "S-OIL will strive to become a company that coexists with the local community by helping neighbors in need in Ulsan based on our core value of sharing."
In addition to supporting vulnerable groups, S-OIL continues to carry out social contribution activities to create a warm society that respects the safety and lives of the people, such as supporting citizens who save others in dangerous situations and the families of firefighters and coast guard officers who lost their lives in disasters.
