"Determined Not to Stop Even for a Moment for the People’s Livelihood"
Labor Special Committee and Foreign Affairs and Security Special Committee Scheduled to Meet on the 12th
The People Power Party will respond to pressing public issues through special committees after the Democratic Party of Korea unilaterally elected 11 standing committee chairs in the National Assembly. The first meeting among the 15 special committees was held by the Energy Special Committee, where the 'East Sea Gas Field Development Project' was discussed together with the government and experts.
Kim Seong-won, chairman of the Energy Special Committee, stated at the first meeting held at the National Assembly on the 11th, "The East Sea deep-sea gas field development project is a very important endeavor that will have a tremendous impact on South Korea's energy security," and added, "Nevertheless, to inform the public accurately about the government's will and efforts in resource development being undervalued and flooded with fake news, we selected this topic as the first agenda."
Jung Jeom-sik, chairman of the Policy Committee, also emphasized at the meeting, "Currently, the National Assembly is repeatedly disrupted due to the unilateral rampage of the opposition (Geoya), but the People Power Party, responsible for national governance, has formed and is operating the Energy Special Committee with the determination that it cannot stop even for a moment to prepare for the future by securing the livelihood economy and national growth engines," and stressed, "For our country, which is poor in natural resources, developing energy resources is important from the perspective of energy security." Following the discussion on the East Sea gas field, the Energy Special Committee will continue discussions on ▲expanding the national backbone strategic network ▲the Special Act on High-Level Radioactive Waste ▲the 11th Power Supply and Demand Plan, among others.
In addition to the Energy Special Committee, the People Power Party will sequentially hold special committee meetings to discuss public livelihood issues. On the 12th, the first meetings of the Labor Special Committee and the Foreign Affairs and Security Special Committee, chaired by Assembly members Im I-ja and Han Ki-ho respectively, are scheduled. Although the special committees are composed of party members, government officials and experts also participate in the meetings. At the Energy Special Committee meeting held that day, Choi Nam-ho, 2nd Vice Minister of the Ministry of Industry, Kim Dong-seop, president of the Korea National Oil Corporation, and Yoo In-chang, professor of Earth System Science at Kyungpook National University, attended. The Labor Special Committee on the 12th will have the Vice Minister of Employment and Labor attending.
