Kim Dong-yeon "Rising Tensions on the Korean Peninsula... Special Judicial Police Patrols and Measures for Residents"

Kim Dong-yeon "Rising Tensions on the Korean Peninsula... Special Judicial Police Patrols and Measures for Residents" Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dong-yeon is presiding over an emergency related agencies countermeasure meeting on the 11th.

Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dong-yeon recently announced measures to ensure the safety of residents, including patrols by special judicial police officers, in response to rising tensions on the Korean Peninsula due to North Korea's release of filth balloons and the government's resumption of loudspeaker broadcasts toward the North.

On the 11th, Governor Kim held an "Emergency Related Agencies Countermeasure Meeting" at the provincial office, emphasizing, "Tensions on the Korean Peninsula are escalating. Cooperation to protect residents and the public is urgently needed."

Governor Kim stated, "Special judicial police officers will be immediately dispatched to patrol and strengthen surveillance in areas expected to be targeted by leaflets sent to North Korea," adding, "Gyeonggi Province's measures are not merely a response to the leaflet distribution but are intended to protect the safety of residents and the public as well as to maintain peace."

He continued, "Gyeonggi Province will firmly respond to acts threatening peace and protect residents' safety. If the security situation in border areas deteriorates, it will be regarded as a stage of potential disaster occurrence, and in accordance with relevant laws, dangerous zones will be designated, and measures such as cracking down on leaflet distribution will be implemented," he added.

The meeting was attended by key officials from the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marine Corps, as well as the heads of the Gyeonggi Fire and Disaster Headquarters, Gyeonggi Northern Fire and Disaster Headquarters, senior police officials, and deputy heads of border area cities and counties in northern Gyeonggi, including Paju, Gimpo, Pocheon, and Yeoncheon.

Earlier, immediately after North Korea's filth balloons were discovered, on May 28, emergency disaster or safety guidance messages were sent to 13 cities and counties including Suwon, and on June 2, 8, and 9, to the entire Gyeonggi Province. In particular, an emergency response situation room has been operating since June 2 to respond to further provocations by North Korea and to share information with related agencies. Related countermeasure meetings were held on June 3 and 4.
