Local liquor companies Bohae Brewery and Muhak are emerging as heatwave-related stocks, showing significant gains in the stock market on the 11th.
Bohae Brewery started the day flat but expanded its gains, at one point rising 26.82% compared to the previous day's closing price. In the afternoon, the increase narrowed, and as of 2:10 PM, it was trading at 555 won, up 15.38%.
Muhak also rose as much as 23.58% in the morning session before adjusting and currently shows an increase of around 5%.
The rise in stock prices of these leading local liquor companies is interpreted as reflecting expectations that liquor consumption will increase due to the early onset of this year's heatwave.
Bohae Brewery manufactures and sells soju, fruit wine, takju (unfiltered rice wine), whiskey, and more. Its soju brands include Ipsaeju, Bohae Soju, Bohae Gold, and low-alcohol soju varieties.
