The Dementia Relief Center in Yeongyang-gun, North Gyeongsang Province, is currently running the family support program "Healim" for families of dementia patients. The program consists of eight weekly sessions from June to July, targeting ten family members of dementia patients.
"Healim" is a program designed to enhance the understanding and caregiving abilities of families and caregivers of dementia patients through a systematic and specific curriculum. It aims to alleviate stress and psychological burdens between dementia patients and their caregivers.
Healim consists of a total of eight sessions (three on understanding dementia and five on caregiving wisdom), covering topics such as: correct understanding of dementia, early symptoms and risk factors by dementia type, diagnosis, treatment and management of dementia, understanding the feelings of elderly dementia patients, overcoming negative attitudes, and learning communication methods.
An official from the Dementia Relief Center stated, "We hope that this training will help participants acquire caregiving skills and knowledge, leading to symptom stabilization and improved quality of life for dementia patients, as well as a reduction in the caregiving burden for families."
In addition to "Healim," the Dementia Relief Center also operates customized programs for different groups, such as cognitive enhancement classes for those with mild cognitive impairment, dementia prevention classes for healthy individuals, and dementia patient shelters for dementia patients.
