"Do Not Fear Failure," Vice Minister Kang Dohyun Reviews AI and Low Earth Orbit Satellite R&D

ETRI Visit "Innovative Ideas Essential"
Discussion with Researchers on AI Semiconductors and Safety

Kang Dohyun, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Science and ICT (photo), visited the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) on the 11th to check the progress of research and development in artificial intelligence (AI) and low Earth orbit satellite communications.

This visit was made to review ETRI's R&D status in the game-changer technology fields recently announced by the government and to discuss R&D related to AI safety.

On this day, ETRI presented plans to achieve R&D outcomes in initiative technology fields such as AI and AI semiconductors, as well as strategies to lead globally in next-generation communication network technologies.

Following this, they shared the preparation status for core technologies in low Earth orbit satellite communications based on the 6th generation mobile communication (6G) standards, part of the low Earth orbit communication satellite development project that recently passed the preliminary feasibility study.

Vice Minister Kang also took time to meet with young researchers to hear their voices from the research and development field.

Vice Minister Kang stated, "For our country to secure global competitiveness in AI and AI semiconductor fields, innovative ideas and challenging research and development are essential," and urged, "I ask ETRI to stand at the center and strive to help South Korea leap into the top three countries worldwide in initiative technology fields."

He continued, "Young researchers should not fear failure and continue to lead challenging research and development," adding, "The government will also actively support efforts to lead the new AI era."
