- Special 1-Day Leave Granted to Employees Who Are National Veterans and Their Families in Commemoration of 'Month of Patriots and Veterans'
- 'Anti-Communist Martyrs Memorial Ceremony' Held on June 5, Upgraded from Previous Event to Foster Patriotism
- 'Patriotism' as a Subculture of Daily Life and 'Our Shared Duty'... Emphasis on Honoring National Veterans, Veteran Families, and Strengthening National Security
Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Choi Ho-kwon) announced that to mark the ‘June Month of National Defense and Veterans,’ it will grant ‘special leave’ to employees who are national veterans and their bereaved families, elevate the ‘Anti-Communist Martyrs Memorial Ceremony’ to a district event, and take the lead in enhancing the respect for veterans’ families and spreading the culture of honoring veterans.
The introduction of ‘special leave’ is intended to honor the sacrifices and contributions of national veterans who made today’s Republic of Korea possible and to allow them to visit the National Cemetery. Since the present exists on the dedication of heroes, remembering and not forgetting their efforts is the ‘duty of public officials,’ reflecting the determination to once again reflect on their sacrifices.
Accordingly, employees who are national veterans or their bereaved families can choose a day in June or link it with Memorial Day to use the special leave. District Mayor Choi Ho-kwon expressed his ‘gratitude’ to the employees who received the special leave and promised, ‘We will never forget the noble sacrifice and dedication.’ This shows careful consideration not only for the veterans but also for employees who are their bereaved family members.
In particular, this granting of special leave is significant as it is the first time implemented under the 8th elected administration. It embodies District Mayor Choi Ho-kwon’s belief in emphasizing ‘proper respect for national veterans.’
Additionally, on the 5th, the district hosted the ‘Anti-Communist Martyrs Memorial Ceremony’ at the ‘Anti-Communist Martyrs Memorial Tower’ located in Singil-dong, attended by about 200 people including District Mayor Choi Ho-kwon and officials from security and veterans organizations.
This event was elevated to a district-level ceremony to honor the noble sacrifices and merits of the warriors who gave their precious lives for the defense of the homeland and to inspire patriotic spirit for the protection of liberal democracy.
Going forward, the district plans to continue hosting the Anti-Communist Martyrs Memorial Ceremony to raise the status of the memorial event and remember the heroes who sacrificed for the nation and its people together with approximately 380,000 district residents.
Usually, the district practices ‘living veterans’ culture in daily life, veterans for all’ to root the culture of honoring veterans in everyday life. That is not all. It also pays special attention to caring for veterans’ families. Efforts include ▲expanding veterans’ honor allowances and support for veterans organizations ▲providing free use of funeral hall mortuary rooms for the first time in Seoul, among others, to promote the culture of honoring veterans. In fact, at the ‘Month of National Defense and Veterans Commemoration Event’ held at Yeongdeungpo Art Hall on the 4th, District Mayor Choi Ho-kwon stated, “We will ensure that our heroes are respected and feel pride, and that there is no neglect in their honor and promotion.”
Yeongdeungpo District Mayor Choi Ho-kwon said, “It is our collective duty to honor the noble sacrifices of national veterans and encourage their bereaved families to take pride,” adding, “We will always remember and honor the veterans who devoted and sacrificed for the nation and people so that they are never forgotten in society, and we will strive to spread the culture of honoring veterans in daily life.”
