Hongseong-gun, Chungnam Province, has partnered with KAIST to establish a mobility innovation ecosystem in Naepo New Town.
On the 10th, Lee Yong-rok, the mayor of Hongseong-gun, held a policy meeting with Jang In-kwon, dean of the KAIST Graduate School of Mobility, and Professor Jang Ki-tae to share plans for the establishment of the KAIST Mobility Research Center, scheduled to open in the second half of this year.
At the meeting, Professor Jang proposed the creation of an integrated industrial ecosystem platform covering the entire cycle of education, research, and industrialization. To achieve this, they plan to operate a convergent curriculum with the KAIST Gifted School in Naepo, attract startups and companies in the mobility sector, and conduct industry-academia collaborative project-based education and research.
Mayor Lee stated, "The establishment of the KAIST Mobility Research Center will greatly contribute to the successful development of the Naepo Future New Industry National Complex and accelerate the completion of the Chungnam Innovation City. We will support Naepo New Town to become the nation's leading mobility innovation hub by leveraging KAIST's excellent research capabilities and support systems."
Earlier, Chungnam Province, Hongseong-gun, and KAIST signed a memorandum of understanding in April to establish the Mobility Research Center and the Naepo Campus of the Korea Science Academy of KAIST.
