Asia Maritime Security Agencies Experts Meeting to be Held in Incheon from 17th to 20th

The Korea Coast Guard announced on the 10th that it will hold the 20th Asia Maritime Security Agencies Experts Meeting in Incheon from the 17th to the 20th.


Before the Asia Maritime Security Agencies Chiefs Meeting to be held in Incheon this September, experts will first discuss cooperation measures in the field of maritime security.


This meeting, attended by 26 countries and international organizations including Korea, China, Japan, and Australia, was first held in 2004 to jointly respond to international crimes and cooperate in search and rescue operations. The meetings have been held in Japan, China, Vietnam, and other locations, and this is the first time it is being held in Korea.

Under the theme "Cultivating Our Seas and Securing the Future," experts in various fields such as maritime crime prevention, search and rescue, environmental protection, information sharing, and capacity building will be divided into five groups to deeply discuss cooperation measures.


In particular, at this meeting, Korea plans to share trends of new types of maritime security threats and propose the establishment of the sixth "Maritime Security" expert group to build a practical maritime security cooperation system among member countries, including multinational joint operation exercises.


Kim Jong-wook, Commissioner of the Korea Coast Guard, said, "It is especially meaningful to hold the meeting in Korea for the first time this year, marking the 20th anniversary," adding, "It will be a venue where practical experts from Asia's maritime security agencies gather to discuss maritime security cooperation."
