Unmarried Mother Who Hid Pregnancy Causes Suffocation Death of Newborn Infant

A single mother who hid her newborn baby to conceal the fact of childbirth has been arrested by the police.

On the 10th, the Chungju Police Station in Chungbuk announced that they have taken unmarried woman A (in her 20s) into custody without detention on suspicion of suffocating her newborn baby and are currently investigating her.

A is suspected of giving birth alone in an apartment room in Yeonsu-dong, Chungju, around 5 a.m. on the 5th, and when the baby started crying, she pressed the baby's face with her foot, causing the baby to suffocate. It is known that A slept after giving birth.

The police arrived at the scene around 11 a.m. that day after receiving a report from an acquaintance of A, who said, "She gave birth to a baby, but it is not breathing," but the baby was already dead with the umbilical cord still attached.

In the police investigation, A stated, "I hid the pregnancy from my family, and I committed the crime because I was afraid my family would find out if the baby cried." It was also revealed that since breaking up with her boyfriend last December, A had expressed distress, saying things like "I don't want to give birth to the baby, but I don't know what to do." The police plan to apply for an arrest warrant for A soon.
