Targeting Dense Retail Outlets Such as Traditional Markets and Large Supermarkets
Songpa-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Seo Gang-seok) announced on the 10th that it will conduct inspections and crackdowns targeting traditional markets, medium and large supermarkets, and livestock product-dense sales establishments within the district to prevent livestock product safety accidents in preparation for the peak summer season.
The district will inspect the hygiene status of distributed livestock products within the district for two weeks until the 21st of this month. Focusing on meat and byproduct sales establishments vulnerable to hygiene issues during summer, they will ▲check hygiene conditions and collect actual displayed products for ▲testing spoilage levels and pathogenic microorganisms.
Additionally, inspections will be conducted jointly by responsible officials and honorary livestock product hygiene monitors targeting suppliers to group meal service facilities such as school cafeterias within the district, as well as livestock product sales establishments for camping, where demand increases during the summer vacation season.
The main inspection items include ▲compliance by business operators ▲expiration dates ▲storage conditions of frozen and refrigerated meat ▲meat labeling standards ▲livestock product traceability numbers ▲origin ▲and adequacy of personal hygiene management.
Furthermore, during the inspection and crackdown period, minor violations will be corrected immediately on-site, and in cases of serious violations such as unsanitary handling and transportation of livestock products, misrepresentation of Korean beef, and false labeling of parts, administrative measures will be taken in accordance with relevant laws such as the “Livestock Products Sanitary Control Act” and the “Act on the Management of Livestock and Livestock Product Traceability.”
District Mayor Seo Gang-seok stated, “Songpa-gu is an area with many livestock product-dense handling establishments, so ensuring the safety of distributed livestock products in preparation for summer is important,” and added, “We will thoroughly manage food hygiene through continuous inspections and crackdowns so that residents can purchase livestock products with confidence.”
