6-Year-Old Child Sitting on Sofa, 'Ouch' at the Protruding Corner

Fortunately, the nerves and muscles were not injured
Company states "Plans to change design to a rounded shape in the future"

A 6-year-old child injured their ankle on a sofa made by a well-known domestic company. On the 9th, SBS News reported the story of 6-year-old A, who suffered a laceration on their ankle caused by a sofa leg component while sitting on the sofa. The accident occurred on May 19. At the time, 6-year-old A was visiting their grandmother's house with family and got a laceration on their ankle while sitting on the sofa. Fortunately, nerves and muscles were not damaged, but the skin behind the ankle was torn about 6 cm and required suturing surgery. The family discovered a rough and sharp edge on the metal sofa leg component, which they believed caused A's injury.

A’s parents informed the manufacturer about the damage. Later, a company employee who visited in person admitted that there was a defect in the component. However, the replacement leg component they brought was just as sharp. A’s mother said, "Because the component was exposed, I think they should have been more careful, but I thought they were not properly managing quality."

The sofa made by this well-known domestic company is reportedly still being sold for 3 million won. The company changed their stance, stating that the problematic leg component was made by a supplier and is not considered a 'defect.' They added that sometimes finishing is not applied during the component production process, and they plan to redesign the component to have rounded edges so that sharp parts are not exposed.
