On the 10th, LG Uplus announced that it had signed a business agreement with the domestic semiconductor fabless company DeepX for the on-device AI semiconductor business. The business agreement ceremony held at LG Uplus's Yongsan headquarters was attended by Kwon Yong-hyun, head of LG Uplus's enterprise division, and Kim Nok-won, CEO of DeepX.
DeepX is a company that develops neural processing units (NPUs) for on-device AI semiconductors used in robots, home appliances, smart mobility, and smart factories. NPUs are processors specialized in processing and reasoning information like the human brain. They are optimized for AI computation tasks because they perform a large number of tasks simultaneously and infer on their own based on accumulated data.
Through this business agreement, the two companies plan to integrate Ixigen into the on-device AI semiconductors developed by DeepX to create various solutions. The developed solutions are expected to be utilized in services currently provided by LG Uplus as well as in smart mobility, robots, home appliances, and smart factories.
LG Uplus will directly plan the on-device AI solutions and develop Ixigen in a customized manner. DeepX will design and manufacture the NPU to ensure the solution operates effectively and will be responsible for optimizing the NPU to deliver maximum performance even after the solution product is developed.
Kwon, head of the enterprise division, said, "We expect that LG Uplus's AI technology and DeepX's fabless technology will create great synergy in the new market of on-device AI."
Kim Nok-won, CEO of DeepX, stated, "In the future, based on on-device AI semiconductors, we will develop AI-supported applications and services related to business-to-business (B2B) and business-to-consumer (B2C) transactions."
