Selection of Public Buildings for Vulnerable Groups Including Senior Centers, Health Centers, Daycare Centers, and Medical Facilities
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on the 9th that it will select and support a total of 529 buildings this year through the Public Building Green Remodeling project aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the building sector.
Public Building Green Remodeling is a key project that reduces greenhouse gas emissions by improving insulation, equipment performance, and other aspects of buildings with low energy efficiency.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport conducts on-site inspections of buildings applied for by public institutions and local governments every year, evaluating urgency, effectiveness, and other factors to provide support based on priority.
Among the 756 buildings submitted during the application period (April 19 to May 10), evaluations were made according to a scoring table that quantified the application of energy-saving elements such as insulation, windows, high-efficiency equipment, and renewable energy, as well as the institution’s commitment to project implementation.
Through the deliberation of the Public Building Green Remodeling Review Committee, a total of 529 buildings were finally selected, including senior centers (319 buildings), public health centers (154 buildings), daycare centers (55 buildings), and medical facilities (1 building). In particular, 12 buildings applied by institutions aiming to promote them as representative excellent cases in the region?due to high energy-saving effects, introduction of innovative technologies, and potential use as regional green remodeling promotion hubs?will be promoted as 'Signature Projects.'
The Signature Project refers to providing up to twice the support compared to general support targets to lead regional expansion of the green remodeling project and to introduce advanced technologies with excellent effects.
Lee Woo-je, Director of Building Policy at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, stated, "Green remodeling is a core means of reducing greenhouse gases in existing buildings according to the ‘National Carbon Neutrality and Green Growth Basic Plan.’ We hope this project will contribute to achieving the 2050 carbon neutrality goal, foster a self-sustaining local market ecosystem, and serve as an opportunity for voluntary expansion of green remodeling in the private sector."
