Landlord Files Complaint Against Hwang Over Missing Furniture and Luxury Bags
Police Say "Conflicting Statements and Civil Matter, No Prosecution"
Health trainer Hwang Cheol-soon (41), who gained fame in the past as the 'Jingman' playing the role of a gong player on a comedy program, was recently accused of stealing built-in furniture and luxury bags from a house where he was a tenant and underwent police investigation.
On the 7th, the Seoul Gwanak Police Station received a complaint that items such as the homeowner's sofa, luxury bags, and alcoholic beverages disappeared from a resort in Jeju City where Hwang was renting. After investigation, the police found it difficult to establish charges of theft or property damage and decided to dismiss the case (no charges), according to a report by the Dong-A Ilbo. A police official told Dong-A Ilbo, "The claims from both sides differ, and since it is not a criminal matter but a civil one, the case was dismissed."

Hwang reportedly claimed, "I never touched the homeowner's belongings during the eviction process. Those items never existed in the first place," and further alleged that the homeowner was demanding excessive cash. He also claimed that the homeowner demanded compensation for items stored in a warehouse that Hwang and his wife could not access. Currently, both parties are known to be engaged in a civil lawsuit.
Meanwhile, Hwang has previously caused controversies several times due to drunk driving and assault. Recently, he was indicted on charges of assaulting a female acquaintance during an argument at the end of February and is currently on trial at the Seoul Central District Court. In 2021, he was summarily indicted and fined 5 million won for confiscating and smashing the mobile phones of two men in their 20s with whom he had a dispute. Additionally, in 2015, he was sentenced to six months in prison with a one-year probation for assaulting a man in his 30s at a restaurant in Gangnam, causing injuries requiring six weeks of medical treatment.
He appeared as 'Jingman' on the tvN entertainment program 'Comedy Big League' from 2011 to 2016.
