College Student Husband Goes to Hunting Pocha Leaving Pregnant Wife Behind
"It's Not Cheating, So Why Are You Overreacting?"
Wife Contemplates Divorce Over Husband's Blaming Anger
A husband who ignores his pregnant wife and frequents hunting pochas (pubs where people meet members of the opposite sex at other tables) has sparked public outrage.
On the 7th, YTN Radio's 'Attorney Jo Inseop's Counseling Center' reported the story of A, who introduced herself as six months pregnant. A said, "My husband and I were campus couples of the same age," and added, "We dated for about two years, and when I became pregnant, we hurriedly got married right after graduating from college. My husband’s graduation was delayed because he served in the military, and he is currently a senior."
A explained the situation: "A few months ago, I heard from college classmates that they saw my husband at a hunting pocha." This meant that despite A being pregnant, her husband visited a pub that facilitates meetings with the opposite sex. When A confronted him, her husband apologized, saying, "A friend who just came back from military leave was there, so I hung out with him and then left. I won’t let this happen again."
However, the husband continued to visit hunting pochas. A said, "My friends reported seeing my husband at hunting pochas," and added, "As the arguments repeated, instead of apologizing, my husband retorted, 'I didn’t cheat; I just hung out like other college students. Why are you overreacting?'" She continued, "If he were still dating, I might have tried to understand forcibly. But a man with a wife and a baby on the way acting like this is pathetic," and lamented, "Thinking about living together for the rest of my life is daunting. It might be better to divorce while still young."
Still, she confessed, "It’s not easy to decide on divorce because of the baby in my womb and the apartment pre-sale rights." A said, "The apartment pre-sale rights were supported by both my family and my in-laws. The contract is under my husband’s name," and explained, "We have paid the deposit and the second installment, but it will take more than a year to complete the third, fourth installments, and the final payment. I’m worried that if I divorce now, my husband might take the apartment."
Netizens who read the story responded with comments such as, "He’s worse than a beast," "Why would he go to a hunting pocha when his wife is pregnant?" "Hunting pochas are equivalent to clubs. It’s clearly cheating," "Why would a man with a wife and child go to a hunting pocha to drink with the opposite sex?" and "He must really like women."
"Even without sexual relations, it can be recognized as an unfaithful act"
Attorney Lee Kyungha stated, "The Supreme Court includes ‘spouse’s unfaithful acts’ as grounds for divorce under civil law, and even if it does not reach adultery, unfaithful acts that violate the marital fidelity obligation are included," adding, "Even if the husband did not have sexual relations with another woman, frequently visiting hunting pochas?places socially recognized as venues for dating among the opposite sex?can be sufficiently recognized as an unfaithful act."
Regarding the apartment pre-sale rights, she advised, "If A’s husband acquires the apartment before the conclusion of the factual trial in the divorce lawsuit, and A proves that she paid the deposit and installments with the help of her family before the marriage broke down, and that the husband acquired ownership based on these resources, the apartment will be included in the property division," adding, "If this is not accepted, the paid pre-sale money will be subject to property division, and A can also receive child support from her husband upon divorce."
Meanwhile, hunting pochas are classified as general pubs among regular restaurants, designed to facilitate instant meetings with the opposite sex at other tables. Most tables have various game boards installed, allowing customers to play games and exchange drinks and snacks with the opposite sex, naturally creating an atmosphere for sharing tables and drinking together.
Due to these characteristics, hunting pochas were among the high-risk facilities advised to refrain from operating during the COVID-19 pandemic to prevent mass infections. High-risk facilities were selected based on six risk indicators such as ventilation and crowd density, including ▲hunting pochas ▲emotional pubs ▲entertainment pubs ▲danran pubs ▲colatecs ▲karaoke rooms ▲indoor group exercise facilities ▲indoor standing concert halls.
