On June 6, the city of Gimhae in Gyeongnam visited the Chunghon Tower in Sambang-dong to honor the soldiers and patriotic martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the country on the occasion of the 69th Memorial Day.
Approximately 900 people attended the memorial ceremony, including Mayor Hong Taeyong, local members of the National Assembly, city and provincial council members, heads of related organizations, heads of veterans’ organizations, national merit recipients, and citizens.
This year’s Memorial Day ceremony, held under the theme “Living Patriotism in Everyday Life, Patriotism for All,” proceeded in the following order: national pledge, silent tribute, rifle salute, laying of flowers and incense, memorial address, recitation of a tribute poem, and singing of the Memorial Day song.

In his memorial address, Mayor Hong expressed, “I extend my respect and deep gratitude to national merit recipients and their families, and I will strive to create a society where they are even more respected and honored.”
He added, “In celebration of the Month of Patriots and Veterans in June, I hope everyone will take meaningful time to visit the 12 memorial facilities in the city and reflect on the noble sacrifices and true meaning of love for the country.”
