"Crazy Hobby"…The Man Who Built an 80 km/h 'Sure' Cart

'Hobby-Made Motorized Handcart'
Breaks Guinness Record and Participates in Event

A British man who created a 'modified handcart' capable of running at 80 km/h is gaining attention. This man personally drove the cart he invented at an airport and even broke a Guinness World Record. On the 6th (local time), the British BBC broadcast covered mechanic Dylan Phillips, who invented the 'world's fastest modified handcart.' Phillips succeeded in attaching a motor to the cart and surpassing 80 km/h.

The device Phillips invented is an old handcart commonly seen in home gardens or rural areas. Using this cart as the chassis, he attached a motor taken from a scooter at the back and installed a brake system on the front wheel. It is half an old cart and half a scooter on the verge of being discarded.

However, this invention became famous enough to participate in the 'Straightliner Speed Week' held in Yorkshire, UK. The event showcases rare cars, motorcycles, and other vehicles from around the world and conducts top speed measurement tests. Phillips told the BBC, "I have always enjoyed a kind of 'crazy stunt' from before," and recalled, "Making the cart was a hobby. After attaching the motor to the cart and practicing driving, I recorded a speed of 50 km/h."

While driving the cart, Phillips discovered that there is actually a Guinness World Record category for 'fastest motorized handcart.' He explained, "After learning that the record existed, I decided to achieve something with this silly cart I made." After repeated modifications, he eventually reached a world record speed of 80 km/h.

However, breaking the handcart top speed record was no easy task. Above all, decelerating while driving was the most difficult part. This is because, due to the cart's design characteristics, the brakes are only installed on the front wheel. Nevertheless, Phillips was able to safely complete the driving test.

Phillips' motorized cart proudly 'debuted' at an event filled with top-tier supercars such as Ferrari, Aston Martin, and McLaren. Thanks to its unexpected appearance, it attracted everyone's attention at the event. Phillips said, "Everyone who attended liked my cart," adding, "Seeing that scene, you can't help but smile."

When asked about his feelings after breaking the Guinness World Record, he said, "Honestly, I am happy even in this state," but added, "Once you become an engineer, your dreams just keep getting bigger." Phillips added, "To be honest, I feel really happy because it encourages innovation and retrying, and motivates me to move faster."
